He's finally gone too far.
And yet, as they say in sports, he's still hanging around, well within striking distance.
And ever louder grow the panicked references to 2004 and votes for Ralph Nader, somehow allowing George W. Bush into the White House.
Yes, we liberals are told, a vote for Dr. Jill Stein or just not voting will allow Trump in. Put aside your conscience and vote that war-loving bag-carrier for Wall Street, Hillary Clinton.
As we've seen in 2008 and 2006, voting for that phony progressive Barack Obama has gotten us only more war and cowardly inaction on issues ranging from gun control to never-ending murders of black people by cops.
Yes, there is a Republican Congress that stands in the way.
But being the nation's leader means you make your case no matter the odds not only because it's the right thing to do, but also because it hastens the day when actual progress happens.
Instead we've got this Reagan wannabe who thinks it's beneath him to fight for lost -- for now - causes.
It's time we started holding these bogus liberals accountable.
Don't blame Nader for Bush.
Blame Al Gore for running a lackluster campaign -- and that includes his craven acceptance of Bush's theft of the election.
Perhaps if Gore had given liberals more cause to support him, he would have been in the White House on 9/11, and who knows how different our world would be.
Same goes for Hillary Clinton.
Maybe if she wasn't always changing her positions for immediate political gain -- and continuing the "triangulation" approach of her husband -- liberals would have put aside their anger of how her DNC cronies treated Bernie Sanders.
In short, give us a reason to vote for her and not against Trump.
But if somehow Clinton blows it, it won't be her fault.
Not being able to beat one of the most unstable, unprepared and frightening candidates for president in our nation's history won't be Hillary's fault.
Curse those true liberals, those with a conscience and principles.
It will -- once again -- be their fault.
